•سناریو ها عبارتند از مجموعه تصویرهای ترسیمی، از آینده که ما را از زمان حال به آینده رهنمون می کنند . به عبارت دیگر ، سناریو توصیفی است از یک آینده ممکن، همراه با تعیین و تشخیص رویدادهایی که به آن آینده می انجامد. •سناریوها اگر به خوبی تعیین و تنظیم شوند ، امکان موشکافی نتایج و در عین حال به کارگیری تصورات و ارتباط موضوعات را با یکدیگر فراهم می آورند . بنابراین با استفاده از توصیفات خیالی می توان تمامی احتمالات آینده را به نحوی شناسایی کرد. مدل های جایگزینی فناوری
•معمولا با گذشت زمان ، فناوری های موجود جای خود را به فن آوری های جدید خواهند داد .• بدین معنا که یک فناوری جدید ، به تدریج و در یک دوره زمانی مشخص، سهم قابل توجهی از بازار را به خود اختصاص می دهد و فناوری قبلی را از رده خارج می کند .• برای مثال ، می توان به جایگزینی تلویزیون رنگی به جای تلویزیون سیاه و سفید و یا ترانزیستور به جای لامپ های خلأ اشاره کرد که یک جایگزینی از نوع تک به تک است . •در بسیاری از موارد ، شتاب تغییر فناوری به گونه ای است که قبل از جایگزینی کامل فناوری موجود با فناوری جدید ، فناوری جدیدتری نیز پا به عرصه بازار می نهد . • به ویژه در حوزه فناوری اطلاعات ، این تغییرات سریع ، کاملأ مشهود است . در چنین حالتی از یک سو فناوری قدیمی ، بازار خود را به دو فناروی جدیدتر می دهد و از سوی دیگر میان دو فناوری جدید ، آن یک که جدیدتر است ، نسبت به فناوری دوم سهم بیشتری را به خود اختصاص می دهد . در این حالت ، با یک جایگزینی چند سطحی و پویا در حوزه فناوری مواجه خواهیم بود .
